Huh?

LensWright is wordplay.

Lens = eye, camera, photograph Wright = creator, constructive, craft (think playwright)

Lenswright refers to the photographer.

Lenswright refers to the writer who draws inspiration from the photographs.

Who?

K.J. is a recent graduate of Veterinary Medicine, which makes her a real live doctor of multiple species. She currently calls New Jersey home.

L.A. is a recent graduate of Creative Writing, which makes her a real live… well, something. She currently calls Montreal home.

Background:

K.J. and L.A. have been friends since the 4th grade. Like most friends, they like to talk to each other. A lot, y’know, keep in touch. This wasn’t especially difficult seeing as, until 11th grade, they went to the same school. Even after graduating high school, when they went to different CEGEPs –K.J. at the once-was-a-nunnery at the top of the hill, L.A. at the once-was-a-nunnery at the bottom of the hill– not much changed.

Until K.J. skipped town to follow her dreams while L.A. stuck around to discover hers and they couldn’t talk too much. Sure, K.J. would come back to visit every once in a while, and sure, they spent a good amount of time chatting, y’know, online. Except as the years went by, and workloads and commitments increased, it wasn’t so easy to keep in touch.

So L.A. came up with an idea. Because she wanted another venue to stretch her creative writing muscles and K.J. had a knack for taking a lot of pictures, some of them being pretty good. The fact that they were each in their final year of an undergraduate degree only provided extra context for the project they affectionately coined: LensWright. The goal? For K.J. to post one picture every day and for L.A. to use that same photo as inspiration for a piece of short fiction. Creative communication.

And Now…

Like many noble pursuits, sometimes things don’t work out the way they’re intended. A new piece of fiction every day was a lot more difficult to pull off. An inspiring photo is not always a daily occurrence. Over the past year and a half, LensWright has sputtered, fizzled, been rejuvenated, reformed and hiatus-ed. With a full catalogue of backlogged photos and K.J. even further away, L.A. is prepared to resuscitate the project.

Because nobody appreciates a one-sided conversation.
